offsite backup - overview

how offsite backup works

Offsite backup security

We take data security very seriously. We are. after all, asking you to trust us with a backup copy of your data which will be readily available to you if you need it, but will be secure from any other unauthorised access.

The security works on several levels as follows:

Data encryption

First, the transmission of data from your system to our backup server is encrypted in a way very similar to VPN so that in the unlikely event of the traffic to our server being intercepted, the data is protected.

Redundant disk drives

On our server, that data is stored on an encrypted drive, so that even if unauthorised access to the server were possible, the data would be protected. All of our servers use redundant drives, so that in the (unlikely) case of drive failure, there will be a second copy of the backup on a separate drive in the primary backup server.

Multiple backup servers

We then make yet another copy of all of the data on the primary backup server onto a second server which is located in a different physical location from the primary server.

All of the servers are located in data centres which have physical security (no one can get in without a prior appointment and verified ID). The data centres have CCTV protection, air conditioning, fire protection, uninterruptable conditioned power supplies and multiple connections to internet backbones provided by at least three separate providers.
