Advanced Offsite Backup
Synchronise Deletions
This is an option to be used with great care. It is possible to instruct the
backup system to remove files from the backup server if they no longer exist
on the computer which is being backed up.
For general use this would be undesirable - backup copies of accidentally
deleted files would be removed.
But in certain cases it is very useful. For example if you run a
Microsoft SQL Server application, you may have maintenance tasks in tha
database which make local backups of the database daily, and prune old backups.
With Synchronised Deletions running on the offsite backup, the old backups
can be removed from the backup server as well.
History and Incremental Backups
If required, our offsite backup system can be configured to make
incremental backups of your data. The only limitation to this is the
amount of space needed to store a (possibly) ever-growing set of backups.
(See also Pruning below).
Archive to DVD
Your backups can be written to DVD and sent to you periodically.
We recommend that the data on the DVDs is encrypted; usually we make
Self Decrypting Archive files before copying to the DVD so that
you are assured that only you can access the data wherever it may go.
Pruning
If you our using offsitebackup in the way it was intended
(i.e. a short term backup rather than a long term archive)
then we can configure the system to automatically remove files
which are more than any fixed number of days old.
